An Ode to Two Rock Anthems

Purple Rain is my Free Bird
I'd rather hear Prince than Lynyrd Skynyrd.
A soaring rock anthem, a flight through the air,
give me the strange weather pattern
with me standing there.

Purple Rain is my Free Bird,
one in search of a leader,
the other fixed in flight, undeterred.
One a guitar solo and a soothing falsetto,
the other ramps up to a frenetic crescendo.

I could certainly argue the other way
and Free Bird might win on another day
but as I ponder this question
and wish not your disdain.
if given the choice
I'll stand in Purple Rain.

  1. Today on this day of realizing the death of Prince Nelson Rogers; who enjoyed learning, and by reading this poem, I to, found it enlightening to enjoy learning. I now know the meaning of the word disdain. Thanks P.C., & thanks P.N.R.
